Smoking is a bad habit that has a detrimental effect on your overall health but despite this being a well-known fact, a large number of people refuse to give up. Smoking is the main cause of an array of different medical conditions and up to 16 million Americans suffer from some sort of disease due to this nasty habit.

Our lungs suffer the most from smoking and the damage is quite serious and can have life-threatening consequences if you don’t do something to prevent it. The best thing you can do, if you’re a smoker, is to stop smoking but there are also some natural remedies that can reverse the damage and cleanse your lungs. In this article we’ll share one such remedy, a lung-purifying drink made up from ginger, turmeric and onions, which has an amazing effect and is recommended for both smokers and ex-smokers.

Why are these ingredients so beneficial for the lungs?

Well, onions are powerful anti-cancer agents which act preventatively and hinder the proliferation of cancer cells in the body. Ginger has a soothing effect on your digestive system and clears your lungs from the excess fluids accumulated as a result of smoking. And lastly turmeric is an amazing Indian spice which abounds in numerous vitamins and minerals and has an overall health beneficial effect in your body. It has antibacterial, antiviral and anticancer properties.

For the preparation of this drink you’ll need:

  • Ginger root (1 inch piece)
  • 400gr of onion
  • 2 tbsp. of turmeric
  • 400g of natural sweetener (maple syrup or stevia)
  • A liter of water

Preparation method:

Mix the water with the sweetener and bring the mixture to a boil. Chop the onions and grate the ginger and add them to the boiling mixture. Finally add the turmeric and lower the heat to medium.  Let it simmer until the liquid is reduced to half the starting amount. Set it aside, strain the liquid and let it cool down at room temperature. Store it in the fridge. Take 2 tablespoons of the remedy 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening.
